A practical guide

Create a compatibility copy with an intentional background.

A WebP-to-JPG conversion is useful when an older editor, document workflow, marketplace, or upload validator refuses WebP but accepts JPEG. PixelShrink creates that compatibility copy in your browser and lets you control JPEG quality. The conversion is a new lossy encode, so it should solve a real compatibility need rather than become an automatic extra step.

WebP can contain transparency; JPEG cannot. Any transparent or semi-transparent pixel is blended onto the chosen background, white by default, before the JPG is encoded. Animated WebP is also outside this still-image pipeline and produces only one frame. Keep the source WebP when alpha, animation, or future re-exporting may matter.

What happens to a transparent WebP?

Its transparent areas are blended onto the selected background color. The downloaded JPG is fully opaque.

Will an animated WebP stay animated?

No. JPG has no animation support, and this browser-canvas workflow outputs a single still frame.

Why not keep WebP?

Keep it when your destination supports it. Convert only when JPG compatibility or a specific opaque workflow is more important.
